The 11 Best Date Night Movies on Netflix
1. The Notebook (2004)
You’ve probably heard that you go through lots of tissues when watching this movie, and that is just one of the reasons why it has become such a popular movie. It’s the story of a man whose wife has Alzheimer’s, and every day he reads to her from her own diary in hopes that she’ll remember something. The stories in the diary are played out on the screen, and the woman has good days and bad days. It also has a unique, tear-jerker ending.
2. The Theory of Everything (2014)
While this is a biography of Stephen Hawking, it is also a story about the power of love. Inspirational without being overly corny, it makes you believe that as long as we are alive, we have the hope of better days. At the end of the movie, Hawking reflects on his life going backward, and he stops at the moment he meets his wife. The movie is great, the ending is great, and it’s one movie you are certain never to forget.
3. Silver Linings Playbook (2012)
Not only is this the story about two people with amazing chemistry, it also tackles the sensitive subject of mental illness, including people with bipolar disorder and others. Touching and even funny at times, it is not just your typical romantic comedy because it deals with some serious mental health issues. It’s an honest look at this topic that people will appreciate, and it’s also just a heck of a film.
4. Across the Universe (2007)
Set in the 1960s, this is the fictional love story of two people that also shows us how they’re dealing with this turbulent, politically charged decade. The most significant aspect of the film is all of the Beatles tunes being showcased from start to finish. If you love the Beatles and you’re in the mood for a good old-fashioned love story, especially if you are old enough to remember the 60s, this is a great film for you to choose.
5. The Spectacular Now (2013)
Although this is a coming-of-age movie about two teenagers in love, it will appeal to anyone who loves a good love story. Part of the reason for its success is the chemistry between the two people who play the lead parts, which is outstanding and authentic. They are an unlikely pair who get together anyway, and while there’s a lot of harmless fluff in it, it also demonstrates some odd philosophical outlooks that most people will enjoy.
6. Holding the Man (2015)
A great LGBT movie that started as an independent film, it follows the lives of two men who meet and fall in love while still in high school, only to split up and get back together again. Its ending is devastating, but the ride they take together is one you will never forget. It covers these men’s lives in a 15-year period and takes the audience through the ups and downs that always come with a relationship. You also need a few hankies at the end.
7. Mr. Right (2015)
The movie portrays the love affair of Martha, who is recovering from a bad breakup and is seeking some purpose in her life, and Francis, a hitman who is on the run from a government agent and is trying to target his own employers for a hit. The lead actors have incredible chemistry, and the film is a bit different because it is a bit on the quirky side. Unique and even a little odd, this is still one film you will never forget.
8. To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before (2018)
Highly praised for its unique theme and great acting, this is a teen romantic comedy about a girl who loves to write love letters to her crushes, even though she never sends them to anyone. When the same letters are sent anonymously, she has to go into damage control mode, and the result is a fake relationship with one of her ex-crushes. The movie is sweet and a little weird at the same time, making for a very interesting film.

9. Set It Up (2018)
No other date night movies on Netflix are like this one. It tells the tale of a couple of co-workers who are trying to set up their bosses – who are both bosses from hell. They hope that if these two people get together, their lives at the office will be a little bit easier on them, as well as the rest of the employees. It’s a little on the superficial side but adorable anyway, and you’ll especially love everything they go through to make their bosses fall in love.
Enjoying Set It Up on Netflix!
10. Scott Pilgrim vs. The World (2010)
If you grew up on Nintendo and anime and comic books, you’ll love this movie, but it has enough laughs to appeal to others as well. It’s about a boy who is trying to win over a girl, but to do so he must fight and defeat seven of her exes first. The seven people challenge him to some interesting contests, and the anime alone will appeal to both young people and older ones alike.
11. Annie Hall (1977)
If you haven’t yet seen this film, you owe it to yourself to watch it now. The movie is charming and witty and a bit odd at the same time, more reminiscent of a long conversation than an actual story. Still, it is a very interesting look at a very interesting relationship, and anyone who has ever been in a relationship will be thrilled to watch it over and over again because you notice something new every time you watch it!
If you’d like to know the top three movies that I would highly recommend from this list, here they are:
